BREAKING NEWS: Far-Left 'Squad' Member LOSES Primary Race - Democrats Are STUNNED

Chicago, Illinois - June 4, 2026

Progressive Activist Kat Abughazaleh Loses Democratic Primary for Illinois 9th Congressional District

Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old progressive activist and former journalist, lost her bid for the Democratic nomination in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District. The primary determined the successor to longtime U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who is retiring after nearly three decades in Congress. Fifteen candidates competed for the nomination in the heavily Democratic district, where the primary effectively decided the general election outcome.

Daniel Biss, a former state senator, won the Democratic nomination. Biss campaigned on a traditional Democratic platform and received the endorsement of retiring Rep. Schakowsky. His established political experience and local connections appear to have appealed to primary voters.

Abughazaleh positioned her campaign as a challenge to the Democratic Party establishment. She emphasized a younger, digital-focused approach and described her effort as “a new type of Democratic campaign.” She stated during the race that the campaign was not intended for “a right-wing billionaire or a member of the Democratic consultant class.”
