Vice President JD Vance addressed a violent altercation that occurred in downtown Cincinnati over the weekend, describing it as “disgusting” and calling for those involved to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge confirmed that five people have been charged in connection with the event, with additional arrests expected. The chief described the altercation as a “fight” and noted that the victims suffered serious injuries.
Vance, speaking during a press conference in northeast Ohio to promote President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and budget proposals, responded to questions about the video. He stated that while he had not seen the full context, the portion he viewed showed “a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person.”
He specifically highlighted one segment in which a grown man allegedly sucker-punched a middle-aged woman. “Where I come from, at least, when you have a grown man who sucker punches a middle-aged woman, that person ought to go to jail for a very long time,” Vance said.
Vance emphasized the need for safe public spaces in American cities. “We have got to make great American cities safe again for families and children. If you want to take your wife or your children out for a meal, you shouldn’t be worried about street violence. And the only way to destroy that street violence is to take the thugs who engage in that violence and throw their a**es in prison.”
Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno and other public figures had previously criticized the incident. Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober confirmed the victims sustained “pretty serious injuries” and would require extended recovery time.
